The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has extended vital support to victims of a recent fire disaster, the physically challenged, and vulnerable families in Taraba and Jigawa states through a large-scale food distribution exercise.
According to a statement by the company’s spokesman, Anthony Chiejina, the Foundation distributed 500 bags of rice and 100 mats to victims of a devastating fire outbreak at Batakashi community in Garki Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The late-night inferno, which occurred two weeks ago, razed over 45 houses, 35 silos, and scores of livestock, leaving widespread devastation and displacing numerous residents.
Speaking during the distribution exercise, the acting Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Muhammad Murtala, revealed that the Foundation had donated a total of 40,000 bags of 10kg rice to support poor and vulnerable people across the state. He described the intervention as “timely,” thanking the ADF for its swift response.
Residents of Batakashi expressed deep gratitude for the gesture. One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Umar Abdullahi, said, “The Foundation has brought succor to our community, which was recently afflicted by an inferno.”
Similarly, another resident, Mr. Usman Auwal, said, “Since the occurrence of the tragedy, the community has never been the same. We are delighted by the support from the Aliko Dangote Foundation and the Jigawa Government, and we pray for peaceful coexistence among our people.”
Flagging off the distribution, the Chairman of Garki Local Government Area, Mr. Adamu Kore, commended the Foundation for its generosity.
“We are very delighted over the Aliko Dangote Foundation’s support and Jigawa Government’s assistance, because the donation has brought succor to hundreds of families, not only in Jigawa but across the country in general,” Kore said.
In a similar outreach, the Aliko Dangote Foundation donated another 20,000 bags of 10kg rice to the Taraba State government for distribution to vulnerable citizens.
Representing the Foundation, Mr. Bello Dan Musa handed over the bags of rice to the 16 Local Government Council chairmen and members of the Taraba State Executive Council.
According to Dan Musa, “The Chairman of the Aliko Dangote Foundation is committed to giving back to society, especially to the poor and vulnerable persons.”
The Taraba State Government was represented by the Chairman of the Taraba State Palliative Committee, Alhaji Saleh Sa’ad.
The interventions are part of the Aliko Dangote Foundation’s Annual National Food Programme, through which it plans to reach over one million families nationwide with critical food support.
