The Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, Hon. Lanre Oyegbola-Sodipo, on Tuesday highlighted the achievements of his administration over the past one  year and unveiled plans for several development projects in the area.

Speaking at a press conference held at the local government secretariat in Akomoje, Abeokuta, Oyegbola-Sodipo said his administration had fulfilled some of its promises within 12 months, particularly in youth empowerment and local enterprise development.

He revealed that the local government had launched the Agbo Painting Ventures, a paint production initiative in Abeokuta North, and trained youths in Adire production, a skill that generates immediate income.

According to him, the Adire training was designed to be completed in three days, after which participants could start generating revenue.

“We have started producing paint in Abeokuta North through Agbo Painting Ventures, and those we trained on Adire production are already active. Within three days of training, participants can begin earning revenue. So far, we have handed over three projects successfully,” Oyegbola-Sodipo said.

The chairman also announced plans to commission three markets equipped with solar power systems that will provide 24/7 electricity.

In a historic move, the administration will introduce a formal microcredit scheme for market women, allowing them access to affordable loans.

“We will be commissioning three markets in the next two weeks – one at Ita Oshin and a modern complex at Lanfewa.

“For the first time, market women will have access to microcredit in a formal sector framework, benefiting over 500 women across different clusters,” he stated.

In addition, Oyegbola-Sodipo spoke about the development of a 240-store computer village at Olomore, aimed at boosting technology access and entrepreneurship in Abeokuta North.

“Looking at the landscape of Abeokuta, we are constructing a 240-store capacity computer village at Olomore to support ICT growth and business opportunities,” he said.

The chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating sustainable economic opportunities and improving infrastructure across Abeokuta North Local Government.
