Tinubu Orders Massive Security Sweep of Northern Forests As Abductions Surge

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed security agencies to launch an intensive manhunt across forests in Kwara, Kebbi and parts of Niger State following renewed cases of kidnapping and terrorist activities in the region.

The directive, issued on Tuesday, was announced by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, via a post on his verified X handle.

According to Dare, Tinubu ordered a full security cordon around major forests in the affected states, where armed groups are believed to be keeping abducted victims and coordinating attacks.

He said the President also instructed the Nigerian Air Force to intensify operations by expanding deep-forest air surveillance, particularly in Kwara State, where security reports indicate the presence of terrorists in “difficult-to-access” forest enclaves.

Under the new directive, the Air Force is expected to maintain 24-hour aerial surveillance, synchronise its intelligence with ground troops, and support ongoing rescue operations in the neighbouring Kebbi–Niger corridor.

Security agencies have in recent weeks battled a rise in abductions across the North-West and North-Central, including highway ambushes and raids on rural communities.

Dare added that residents in the affected areas must provide timely intelligence on strange movement or suspicious persons to enable security operatives respond swiftly.

Communities across the North have repeatedly appealed for stronger federal intervention as bandits continue to exploit forest hideouts and porous borders.
