A Germany-based Nigerian philanthropist, Joy Orude, has launched the JK El Roi Foundation to empower youths and women in Ajegunle, Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area of Lagos State.

The foundation was unveiled during the festive season with a medical outreach programme that offered free medical tests and basic healthcare services to underprivileged residents of the community.

Speaking at the launch, Orude said the foundation was created to provide opportunities for vulnerable individuals, with a particular focus on removing children from the streets and supporting access to education and skills acquisition.

“We want to take kids off the streets. Some of them are interested in learning new skills, while others need support to return to school because their parents cannot afford the cost of education,” she said. “We are working closely with their parents to make this possible.” Orude, who grew up in Ajegunle, described the initiative as a personal commitment to restoring hope among young people in the community. She said the foundation represents a long-held vision to give back to her roots. “It is a dream come true. I first shared this vision over 25 years ago, and today it has become a reality,” she said.

She added that the foundation, with the support of her husband, plans to implement empowerment projects three times annually. As part of activities marking the launch, food items were also distributed to residents, with assurances of additional programmes in the coming months.
