The Anambra State Government has declared Friday, November 7, 2025, a work-free day for all civil servants in the state ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The Head of Service, Theodora Igwegbe, who announced this in a statement issued in Awka on Thursday, said the decision was approved by Governor Charles Soludo to allow public servants to travel to their various polling locations in readiness for the election.
According to her, the gesture underscores the state government’s commitment to promoting civic responsibility and deepening democratic participation among workers.
“His Excellency, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, has graciously approved Friday, November 7, 2025, as a work-free day for all public servants in Anambra State. This is to enable them to travel to their respective communities and exercise their civic duty in the forthcoming governorship election,” the statement read.
Igwegbe emphasised that active participation of civil servants in the electoral process was crucial to consolidating good governance and democracy.
“The electoral process is not just a right but a civic duty. As members of the public service, our contribution through participation in elections is a vital step toward sustaining transparent leadership and accountable governance,” she added.
The Head of Service further directed all permanent secretaries, heads of ministries, departments, and agencies, as well as political appointees, to duly inform their staff and ensure full compliance with the directive.
Governor Soludo’s approval comes as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) finalises preparations for Saturday’s governorship poll in the state.
The declaration of a work-free day is expected to ease movement and boost voter turnout, particularly among government employees who may need to travel to their hometowns to cast their votes.
INEC had earlier disclosed that over 98 per cent of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) had been collected in Anambra State, expressing optimism about massive voter participation in the election.
