Says Abiodun Sabotaging Federal Projects In Ijebu North

Former governor of Ogun State, and a Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial district, Senator Gbenga Daniel has launched a fresh attack on the  State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, accusing him of operating what he described as a “three-man closed government” and sabotaging federal projects meant for residents of Ijebu North.

Daniel, spoke during the Midterm Community Assessment and Review Tour of the BATOGD Movement in Ijebu North Local Government on Sunday.

The former governor said despite his loyalty to the All Progressives Congress and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he had been subjected to “political theatrics”, including a controversial suspension he claimed was engineered by “two or three aides of the Governor”.

Daniel accused the Abiodun administration of intolerance and shutting out independent voices within the party and the state.

“What we have in Ogun State is a three-man closed government,” Daniel said.

“A system where no one outside a tiny cabal can offer counsel without being ostracised, victimised or marked for persecution. Governance is being administered strictly for a selected few.”

He alleged that traditional rulers, teachers and community leaders were being threatened with sack or demolition notices simply for associating with opposition voices or offering constructive criticism.

“This is not governance; it is a cult, run with dictatorial instincts, treating our commonwealth as a personal estate,” he said.

The senator warned that Ijebu North may lose federal funding for two ongoing rehabilitation projects—Itanrin Road and the General Hospital Road—due to what he called needless obstruction by the state government.

Daniel said the federal interventions, facilitated through his office, had been halted after a “stop-work order” was issued by the local government chairman “under immense pressure”.

“If by December 2025 this stop-work order is not revoked, the federal funding will be lost. The money will be returned to the treasury,” he said.

He added that federal contractors were increasingly reluctant to work in Ogun State.

“The gist in Abuja now is: ‘If it’s Ogun State and you don’t know the Governor, you are playing with a stop-work order,’” he said.

Daniel appealed to traditional rulers and political leaders in Ijebu North to intervene and persuade the governor to allow the projects to continue.

“There are hundreds of roads requiring state and local government attention. To single out and sabotage these two roads because of personal grievances is the height of political pettiness,” he said.

Highlighting his contributions as a former governor, Daniel listed the establishment of Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic in Ijebu-Igbo, the multi-campus expansion of Olabisi Onabanjo University, and the relocation of the institution to its permanent site in Ago-Iwoye.

He also cited recent projects facilitated as a senator, including solar streetlights, motorised boreholes and a bill for a Federal Medical Centre in Ijebu Ode.

Daniel said neither he nor members of the BATOGD Movement had engaged in anti-party activities, insisting that allegations against them were part of a broader agenda to silence dissent.

“Our loyalty to the party and the President is unwavering,” he said.

“We will not be distracted by political witch-hunts. We will continue to work for our people.”

He expressed confidence that “sanity, progress and true governance” would eventually prevail in Ogun State.
