Chelsea’s chance of securing a Champions League qualification was fumbled on Sunday following a 0-0 draw at Brentford.
Enzo Maresca’s side started the match without England forward Palmer despite the high stakes involved, a decision that would deny them a much-needed victory.
Eventually, Palmer was brought into the game, but it proved to be a case of too little too late as his only chance at goal went right above the crossbar.
Despite Brentford’s inability to win at home in recent times, Chelsea failed to capitalise on this following their streak of winless matches since December.
The Blues head to Legia Warsaw on Thursday in their UEFA Conference League quarter-final campaign and will vacate their current fourth league position if fifth-placed Manchester City defeat Manchester United later today.
