International Council for Ifa Religion, on Tuesday, urged the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade to use all available means to protect the sanctity of Yoruba’s cultural and traditional values, so as to uphold the global respect the tribe deserves.
ICIR, in a congratulatory statement by its President, Fayemi Fakayode, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, pledged its total support towards protecting the throne and core Yoruba values that will continue to uphold the respect accorded to the tradition and culture across the globe.
He said, “The members of ICIR are overwhelmed with joy over the successful installation of Oba Owoade 1, Elewuetu as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo Kingdom.
“Your coming after late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi is a reflection of Eledumare’s plan to continue to use Oyo towards the emancipation of traditional Yoruba beliefs and religion.
“We want to urge you to use all available means to protect the sanctity of Yoruba’s cultural and traditional values, so as to uphold the global respect the tribe deserves. The late Alaafin, Oba Adeyemi, did his best to uphold Yoruba tradition against all odds.
“We also want to advise you to be wary of a particular traditional ruler in the South-West, who has been parading himself as ‘an emir.’ The latter is an interloper in Yoruba’s monarchical ascension process.”
The PUNCH reports that Owoade, who received staff of office and instrument of office on Monday, January 13, 2025, at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan, was officially unveiled by Governor Seyi Makinde at the Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo, on Saturday, April 5, 2025.
