The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Capital Territory Command, has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its partnership with the Nigeria Correctional Service to ensure the safety and security of the nation’s capital.

NSCDC also said it has deployed of gun truck at correctional facilities as a demonstration of the Corps’ ongoing support and collaboration.

The Commandant of the NSCDC FCT Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, made the commitment during a visit by the new FCT Controller of Correctional Service, Ajibogun Olatubosun, to his office in Abuja, on Tuesday.

This was contained in a statement signed by the NSCDC Command Spokesman, Monica Ojobi.

Odumosu stressed the shared responsibility of both agencies to secure the capital city, protect its residents and visitors, and safeguard critical government infrastructure, including custodial facilities.

“Our work is intertwined, and the two agencies need each other to actualize the mandate we were established to provide.

“In doing so, we need to work hand in glove, putting behind our differences, which brings unhealthy rivalry and aim towards the same goal of enhancing people-oriented security,” said Odumosu.

He also highlighted the deployment of an NSCDC gun truck stationed at correctional facilities as a demonstration of the Corps’ ongoing support and collaboration.

“Our gun truck, as we speak, is stationed at your custodial facility as a testament to our support and genuine collaboration with your agency, which is aimed at protecting the people of the metropolis and preventing any unsolicited attacks on your facilities and inmates,” he noted.

The Commandant reiterated that the NSCDC remains committed to safeguarding critical national assets and maintaining law and order across the FCT.

He assured that his personnel are on constant surveillance, with covert officers actively gathering intelligence, which will be shared with the Correctional Service as needed.

The Commandant assured, “My personnel are on 24-hour surveillance and the covert officers are also doing their jobs to ensure that credible intelligence are gathered and we are ready to share with you when and where necessary.”

Odumosu expressed his desire for the continued peaceful coexistence between the two agencies, emphasising the importance of their partnership in ensuring a secure environment for the residents of the FCT.

In his remarks, the FCT Controller of the Correctional Service acknowledged the importance of collaboration with the NSCDC.

Olatubosun expressed his agency’s readiness to work together, highlighting the shared goal of enhancing the security of NCOS facilities and preventing potential criminal activities.
