Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has approved the release of N200 million for the payment of gratuities to retirees in the state.

The Permanent Secretary, Pension Transition Arrangement Department, Mr Francis Omotoso, made the disclosure in a statement made available in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, on Tuesday.

Omotoso noted that the amount would cover payment of gratuities of state government pensioners up to July 2015.

He said, “The approval is another significant step towards offsetting the backlog of outstanding gratuities and other entitlements of retirees owed by previous administrations in line with the continuity and shared prosperity agenda of the Oyebanji administration. ”

The permanent secretary reiterated the commitment of Oyebanji to the general well-being of retirees in the state.

He, however, urged the affected pensioners to report at the PTAD Office, Old Governor’s Office for documentation in preparation for the collection of their cheques.

Recall that the Oyebanji administration has, so far, paid over N7.2bn as gratuities to state retirees in the last 30 months.
