Sultan  Hails Ibadan Chief Imam At 90

The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, has felicitated with the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheikh Abdul-Ganiyy AbuBakr Agbotomokekere, as he clocked 90 years on Monday, May 5, 2025.

In a congratulatory message issued by the Media Team of the Sultanate Council on Tuesday, May 6, the Sultan commended the cleric’s lifelong commitment to Islam and humanity.

He described the nonagenarian as a spiritual pillar whose service has impacted generations of faithful in the South West and beyond.

Sheikh Agbotomokekere, who also serves as the Grand Patron of the League of Imams and Alfas in the South West, Edo, and Delta states, was praised for his unwavering dedication to the growth of Islam and the well-being of the Ummah.

“We thank Allah for giving him a long life, and we are also praying for him for more years of service to Islam and humanity. We wish him all the best and Allah’s blessing,” the Sultan said.

The Sultan expressed joy over the milestone, noting that longevity in good health is a divine favour and a privilege for greater service.

Sheikh Agbotomokekere, known for his decades of spiritual leadership and community guidance, remains one of the most respected Islamic figures in Nigeria’s South West region.
