The Forum for Governance Leadership and Value (FGLV) has honoured Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, with the Legislative Icon Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s democratic process and legislative excellence.

The event, which took place in Abeokuta on Thursday, was part of a media symposium themed “Enhancing the Value of the Legislature in Nigeria’s Democratic Process.”

The forum brought together scholars, lawmakers, and political stakeholders to examine the legislature’s role in fostering good governance.

Chairman of the forum and Federal Commissioner representing Ogun State, Hon. Morakinyo Akinleye, lauded Senator Adeola’s commitment to his legislative duties and his deep connection with his constituents.

“The legislature is the closest arm of government to the people. Hon. Solomon Adeola should be commended for his understanding of grassroots needs and his effective committee management,” Akinleye stated.

Echoing similar sentiments, former House of Assembly member representing Ado-Odo/Ota, Hon. Aina Akinpelu, described Yayi’s performance as “extraordinary” and “over syllabus,” noting that the senator consistently goes beyond expectations.

“We are elected to make laws, not to carry out executive functions like empowerment. Yet, Senator Adeola has taken it upon himself to bridge that gap, ensuring that his constituents’ voices are heard at the national level,” Akinpelu said.

Also speaking at the event, Professor Moshood Omotosho of Olabisi Onabanjo University, in his keynote address, emphasized the critical role of the legislature in maintaining order and democracy in the nation.

“The legislature plays a stabilizing role in governance. It is responsible for enacting laws that promote civil liberties, ensure electoral integrity, and resolve conflicts through dialogue,” Omotosho said.

Senator Adeola, who currently represents Ogun West Senatorial District, has garnered commendations across party lines for his legislative activism, vocal advocacy on the Senate floor, and constituency outreach efforts.

The award by FGLV adds to a growing list of recognitions for the lawmaker, who many observers say is redefining legislative representation in Nigeria.
