The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) has accused the Federal Government of neglecting the welfare of workers in federal polytechnics across the country.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the National President of SSANIP, Comrade Adebanjo Ogunsipe, expressed deep concern over what he described as the government’s persistent insensitivity to the plight of polytechnic staff, especially in the face of current economic hardship.

Ogunsipe stated that the association’s members are a critical part of the polytechnic education system and deserve better treatment from the government.

He decried the delay in salary payments, describing the situation as unacceptable, particularly when the salaries in question are already insufficient to meet basic needs.

“With the terrible economic situation, Nigerian workers deserve more than what the government is offering. It is disheartening that salaries which are hardly enough to begin with are not paid as and when due,” he said.

The SSANIP leader warned that the continued neglect of workers’ welfare could lead to serious consequences in the education sector, noting that the morale and productivity of staff are already being adversely affected.

He called on President Bola Tinubu to prioritise the role of polytechnic education in national development, stressing that technical and vocational education is key to driving economic progress.

“Polytechnic education is the propeller of economic development in any society that embraces it.

“The President must recognise and harness this potential through favourable policies,” Ogunsipe added.

He also cautioned that a breakdown in industrial harmony may become inevitable if urgent steps are not taken to address the grievances of polytechnic workers.

“There’s a limit to human endurance. Our members have shown great commitment and dedication to their duties. They deserve to be adequately cared for,” he said.

The statement was electronically signed by Comrade Adebanjo Ogunsipe, National President of SSANIP
