Nigerian international superstar, Burna Boy was one of the icons who graced the 2025 Met Gala, delivering one of the most striking and intentional fashion moments at the annual charity event, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

This year’s exhibition, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” with a focus on “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” explored the evolution of Black elegance and dandyism as both resistance and art form, stretching across centuries and continents.

Burna Boy arrived in a custom-designed ensemble by acclaimed British-Ghanaian designer Ozwald Boateng, widely credited with revolutionizing modern menswear through an African lens.

In collaboration with Boateng, Burna brought forth a moment that was as much about legacy as it was about the future of global Black expression. The ensemble — a royal red wool tuxedo paired with a dramatic oxblood eel skin cape — was designed, in Boateng’s words, “not just for the carpet, but for history.”

This marks Burna Boy’s second Met Gala festival appearance, and once again, he used it to center African craftsmanship, story, and power on one of the world’s most iconic fashion stages.

Fresh off the Met Gala red carpet, Burna Boy carried the night forward in true style, hosting his first-ever Met Gala after-party. Burna teamed up with South African music icon Black Coffee to celebrate an intimate gathering that felt more like a reunion than a high-profile affair.

Describing it as a “big family setting,” Burna brought together friends, collaborators, and cultural heavyweights from around the world. The room resonated with Afrobeats, and so did the presence of stars like Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Lupita Nyong’o, Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra, Shaboozey, Central Cee, Chance the Rapper, and more.

One striking detail of the gig is the microphone he performed with, engraved with the words “No Sign of Weakness.” It’s not just a favourite phrase of his; it’s also the title of his forthcoming eighth album.

Ahead of the forthcoming eighth studio album, the Grammy award winning artiste, Burna Boy, a couple of days back released a seductive new single, “Sweet Love”, accompanied with its music video same day.

Produced by Major Seven, the romantic, reggae-leaning track showcases Burna’s unmistakable vocal charisma and signature blend of global influences with melodic pop sensibility.
