The Eselu of Iselu Kingdom in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, Oba (Dr.) Akintunde Akinyemi, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the conversion of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, to the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro (FUTI), describing it as a monumental achievement and a dream come true for the Yewa people.
In an open letter of appreciation addressed to President Tinubu, Oba Akinyemi described the upgrade as a landmark decision that will forever change the educational landscape of Ogun West.
“Your approval of the conversion of Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro to Federal University of Technology, Ilaro is a monumental milestone that will transform the educational landscape of Yewa Land,” the monarch wrote.
“This landmark upgrade will provide our youth with access to cutting-edge technology and innovative education, empowering them to drive progress and development in our division, i.e., Ogun State.”
The monarch commended the President for what he called “visionary leadership and commitment to the development of Yewa Land and the entire Gateway State.”
According to him, the decision has not only placed Ogun West on equal footing with other regions in the state but has also honoured the aspirations of the people.
“This new university has made Ogun West to be at par with Ogun Central where the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAB) is domiciled and Ogun East where the Federal University of Education, Ijagun, Ijebu Ode is domiciled,” he added.
The royal father gave special recognition to Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, CON (popularly known as Yaayi), who represents Ogun West Senatorial District at the National Assembly. Oba Akinyemi noted that Senator Adeola’s decade-long efforts to bring a federal university to Yewa Land had finally come to fruition.
“Without mincing words, the unprecedented presidential approval… has fulfilled the desire of all well-meaning sons and daughters of Yewa, especially our son, Senator Olamilekan Adeola (Yaayi)… whose burning desire for about a decade was to have a Federal University in Yewa Land.”
He also heaped praises on the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, for his developmental strides across Yewa Land and for playing a pivotal role in attracting Senator Adeola back to his home state.
“To me, the greatest achievement of Governor Dapo Abiodun in Yewa is the effort he made to bring Senator Olamilekan Adeola (Yaayi) back to his home state, Ogun State.
Since his assumption of office… Senator Adeola has continued to be a big blessing to all his kinsmen and kinswomen,” the Eselu said.
He further extended his gratitude to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, GCON, and other members of the Senate for their collaborative efforts with Senator Adeola in realizing the conversion.
The traditional ruler also congratulated the Paramount Ruler of Yewa Land and Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas, Oba Kehinde Gbadewole Olugbenle, MFR, under whose domain the new university will be situated.
Oba Akinyemi concluded his letter by calling on all Ogun West politicians to set aside personal ambitions and rally behind Senator Adeola and Governor Abiodun for the collective advancement of the region.
“Everybody’s ambition should be secondary to the collective interest of Ogun West,” he said, urging unity and a focus on development.
“Once again, I say a big thank you to the Jagaban of Africa for making our dream a reality,” he concluded.
President Tinubu’s decision, which was officially announced during plenary by Senate President Akpabio, has been widely applauded across Ogun West, marking a major stride in the region’s educational and developmental journey.
