..As artistes, music producers, lawyers endorse roadmap

By Olakunle Olafioye

A roadmap for promoting Nigerian music to achieve global acceptance has received the endorsement of an assemblage of artistes, executives, and industry professionals who participated in the AQT Lagos camp, organized by a Houston-based Nigerian Afro-fusion artiste, Abdul Quam Tadese, popularly known as AQT.

The camp was an immersive experience which focused on collaboration, cultural exchange and education. It featured key players from across the entertainment ecosystem, with legal professionals providing critical guidance on music business laws, contracts and intellectual property.

AQT, a corporate professional who has also transitioned into creative entrepreneurship partnered with Scorp, a multi-platinum American producer with ties to Cash Money Records and credits with Chris Brown and Trey Songz, to launch the multifaceted initiative, which according to him, extended beyond studio sessions and created opportunities for deep industry insight and meaningful cross-cultural connections.

Speaking on the initiative, Tadese, who described the camp as more than just a music workshop or camp recording, said: “Camp Lagos is a camp for the culture. It’s about generating authentic creativity while building bridges between Nigeria and the world. Beyond its cultural scope, Camp Lagos also served as a reflective and focused creative space for me as an individual.”

The creative roster at the camp featured an impressive lineup of talents from the African music scene including Ayanfe, a standout affiliated with Davido’s DMW, Ceeza Milli, a singer-songwriter closely linked with Wizkid, Tunde Phoenix (former manager to neo-fuji global star Asake and key music strategist, who all shared their expertise at the camp. Executives from Mr Eazi’s emPawa Africa reinforced the value of mentorship, artiste development, and strategic planning, while a new wave of songwriters and producers brought fresh energy to the collaborative environment. AQT’s project also featured Lawal Rasaq Owolabi, popularly known as King Labi.
