To unlock the economic potential of Ondo State’s riverine communities, the Abdul Adetunji Mohammed (ATM) Foundation has declared strong support for beach tourism development in the Ilaje region.

The endorsement was announced during the recently-concluded Araromi Beach Carnival, a vibrant celebration hosted by Dr. Taiwo Malumi, renowned philanthropist and founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State.

Speaking at the event, Adetunji Abdul, promoter of the ATM Foundation, emphasised the strategic importance of beach tourism in advancing Nigeria’s Blue Economy and driving economic diversification—an agenda championed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“The Ilaje region holds significant potential to boost Ondo State’s GDP if properly harnessed. “Our foundation is ready to collaborate with the government to develop the beach ecosystem for sustainable economic growth”, he said.

He highlighted tourism’s potential to transform local communities, citing its capacity to generate employment across sectors such as hospitality, transportation, and entertainment.

“Beach development and tourism are vital for community and economic growth. Tourism generates revenue, creating jobs in hospitality, transportation, and entertainment.

“These developments attract investment, improving infrastructure and services”, he added.

Abdul reaffirmed his commitment to supporting infrastructure development in Ondo State, positioning it as a key strategy for economic diversification and reduced dependence on oil.

“Beach resorts and attractions draw visitors, increasing the state’s internally generated revenue. This revenue supports public services and infrastructure, improving the quality of life for residents,” he explained.

With improved connectivity through the coastal road linking Lagos to Calabar, Abdul revealed that discussions are already underway with leading hospitality brands such as the Radisson Group and Marriott International to bring premium developments to the region.

He also highlighted the significance of the ongoing Ondo Deep Sea Port project, stating that its realization would elevate Ilaje into a major commercial hub.

“With the commencement of the Ondo Deep Sea Port, the Ilaje area will become a major commercial corridor that will transform the lives of the good people of Ondo,” he asserted.

Abdul called on the youth and wider citizenry of Ondo State to continue backing Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s vision for industrialisation and inclusive economic progress.
