A renowned communications expert and media strategist, Mr. Idris Kolawole Katib, has been promoted to the position of Principal Assistant Registrar (Public Relations) at Crescent University, Abeokuta.

His elevation was confirmed in a letter of promotion dated May 13, 2025, and signed by the university’s Registrar, Barrister Zakariya Ademola Ajibola.

The letter stated that the decision was reached during the meeting of the university’s Appointments and Promotions Committee for Non-Academic Staff held on February 20, 2025.

“I am pleased to inform you that the Appointments and Promotions Committee… approved your promotion to Principal Assistant Registrar,” the letter reads in part.

On behalf of the Vice-Chancellor and the Governing Council, I congratulate you on this well-deserved elevation and hope you will continue to serve the university to the best of your ability.”

Katib, who joined Crescent University in 2010 as the institution’s pioneer Public Relations Officer, has steadily climbed the professional ladder over the last 15 years.

He has held several positions including Senior Executive Officer (Public Relations), Principal Executive Officer (Public Relations), Alumni Relations Officer, and Senior Assistant Registrar (Public Relations), a post he occupied before his current promotion.

A 2021 recipient of The Prestige newspaper’s “Best Public Relations Practitioner of the Year” award, Katib is widely respected for his strategic communication skills, brand management expertise, and professional dedication to the advancement of institutional image and reputation.

He is a certified marketing communications expert and an active member of several professional bodies including the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), Institute of Corporate Administration, Public Service Productivity and Development, and the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria.

Before joining Crescent University, Katib worked in various media and corporate communication roles including outdoor media management and healthcare reputation strategy.

He was instrumental in establishing the Public Relations Unit of Crescent University, a department he has led with distinction for over a decade and a half.

Katib is also widely recognized as a prolific writer and thought leader in communication circles, having authored over 500 professional articles and academic papers in areas such as journalism, advertising, public relations, branding, healthcare communication, and digital media.

He also writes speeches, poems, book reviews, and manages institutional publications such as newsletters, brochures, and magazines.

He served as the media aide to the late founder of Crescent University, His Excellency Judge Bola Ajibola, a former judge of the International Court of Justice, for over 10 years—playing a key role in managing the public image of both the legal icon and the university.

Beyond administration, Katib is a mentor to communication students and frequently volunteers as a part-time lecturer in Public Relations, Advertising, and related fields. Known for his passion for writing and deep engagement with strategic communication, he continues to inspire a new generation of media professionals.
