Tinubu Mocks Opposition Calition, Labels Leaders ‘Political IDPs’

President Bola Tinubu has described opposition leaders attempting to form a new political coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections as “political internally displaced persons (IDPs)” seeking relevance.

Speaking on Wednesday during the inauguration of legacy projects in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, Tinubu dismissed the emerging coalition as an unserious and premature political adventure aimed at destabilising his administration.

The president was in the state at the invitation of Governor Abdullahi Sule, whose administration he praised for prudent management of state resources and commitment to development.

Tinubu’s comments come days after former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, led a group of opposition figures to submit a letter of intent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register a new political platform named the All Democratic Alliance (ADA).

But Tinubu waved off the move, calling the opposition actors desperate politicians without ideological focus.

“Those who have triggered early politics in the perdition of coalition—don’t pay them any attention. They are the political IDPs. Don’t give them a home. The hope is here,” Tinubu said in a veiled reference to the coalition promoters.

He warned that he would not fold his arms and watch while political actors mobilised prematurely to undermine his government.

“I am not prepared for what they’re attempting—an early political campaign,” the president said. “But who is the politician that will keep quiet when gangsters are forming a coalition not just to unseat a government, but to unseat themselves?”

Despite current economic challenges, Tinubu insisted his administration has made significant strides, particularly in curbing waste and promoting fiscal discipline.

“We’ve cut the waste. I won’t say much on the economic dynamism we are facing, but the hope is here. From this moment, you will have no regrets,” he added.

He further commended Governor Sule’s leadership style and effective use of resources for the benefit of the Nasarawa people.

“Sule is doing well because Bola Tinubu is doing well too,” he declared.

Tinubu also applauded the contributions of the First Lady of Nasarawa State and reassured residents of the federal government’s continued support.
