Saraki Vows PDP Will Become Stronger, Ready To Win 2027 Polls

Former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has expressed confidence in the ability of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to bounce back as a formidable opposition ahead of the 2027 general election.

Saraki gave the assurance on Tuesday while reacting to the outcome of the party’s 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which held in Abuja despite an earlier police presence at the PDP national secretariat.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, the former Senate President said the successful conduct of the NEC meeting marked a turning point for the party and proved wrong the critics who had predicted internal collapse or mass defections.

“It is good that we have disappointed the pessimists,” Saraki said. “With the outcome of the NEC meeting, we have disproved the false propaganda being circulated in some quarters that those of us who chose to remain in PDP are only scheming for the death of the party.”

He added that if such narratives were true, many leaders would have chosen to exit the party rather than making concessions for unity.

Saraki emphasised that PDP leaders were more committed than ever to rebuilding the party into a strong alternative that could challenge and defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

“We are determined to make the party a strong opposition, capable of winning the next general election and serving our people better. We only need to forge ahead along these lines,” he said.

The 100th NEC meeting, which held on Monday, was seen by many analysts as a litmus test for the party’s internal cohesion following months of factional tensions and calls for restructuring.

Despite security disruptions earlier in the day, the meeting reportedly ended peacefully with a renewed commitment by key stakeholders to strengthen party structures and ensure electoral readiness.

Saraki commended party faithful for their resilience and contributions, urging continued unity and discipline in the lead-up to 2027.

“I thank all our leaders and the numerous members of this great party for their efforts,” he concluded.

The PDP, Nigeria’s main opposition party, lost power to the APC in 2015 and has since faced multiple internal crises and leadership battles, sparking concerns about its viability as a national political force.
