Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie has urged to President Bola Tinubu to release detained Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Edochie, a staunch supporter of the president, made the appeal in a Facebook post on Thursday.
Kanu was re-arrested in June 2021 in Kenya, through what his family and lawyers described as an “extraordinary rendition”, after being initially arrested and charged in 2015.
He is facing trial on seven counts of terrorism and treason.
Kanu’s ordeal has sparked calls for a political solution.
On Thursday, apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo confirmed ongoing discreet diplomatic discussions involving select Igbo elders and President Bola Tinubu towards releasing the detained lPOB leader.
Edochie said, “To my dear President, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I humbly appeal to you to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.”
