When the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) holds next year, a moment in the in memoriam segment that would largely hold a spot would cover that of Kayode Peters who a fortnight passed away in Canada.

The segment serves as a poignant reminder of remarkable contributions and legacies made within the industry, by individuals like the late Kayode Peters, the beloved actor, director, and producer, who, as reported, died at the age of 49, after a prolonged illness.

Peters passing has continued to draw torrents of heartfelt tributes from friends and professional colleagues in the continent’s film and television industry. Noteworthy, the tribute posted by Africa Magic mourns the passing of this iconic figure, popularly known as KP.

“All of us at Africa Magic mourn the passing of Kayode Peters, a gifted director, producer, and comedic trailblazer whose work helped shape modern television in Nigeria,” the post read. Sadly, folks are yet to come to terms with the loss of one of its brightest minds.

The news of his passing reminds one of the definitiveness of death, with tributes pouring in from colleagues and fans alike. The Kayode Peters that I know and related with a couple of times past was truly an amazing brother, friend and catalyst to many in the industry.

A particular occasion was at the lounge he, and a few other friends/colleagues set up somewhere around Akoka, close to University of Lagos. KP was so believable. The outcome of a discussion that followed, soon after, turned out not in his favour but to some environmental factors, contending his celebrity status.

Running into him on a wedding day at a filling station within same neighborhood marked another memorable occasion. A quintessential gentleman, KP would always tell you the truth, what he feels or thinks of any situation or instance without holding back. My heart goes out to his family.
