Following a successful premiere on June 28, 2025, at EbonyLife Place Cinemas in Lagos, the official trailer for SOPO, the critically acclaimed animated short film by Creele Animation Studios has been released to widespread anticipation.

Directed by multi talented artist Nissi Ogulu and inspired by Benson Idonije’s memoir Dis Fela Sef, SOPO tells a moving story of a young musician and his father, capturing themes of generational conflict, legacy, and the transformative power of music. The premiere attracted notable personalities from film, music, and cultural sectors, who gathered to witness what is being hailed as a landmark moment for African animation.

Speaking at the premiere, Nissi Ogulu described the film as “a love letter to our roots, our icons, and the future we are building through creativity.” Featuring an evocative soundtrack composed by Mádé Kuti, SOPO blends rich storytelling with striking animation to celebrate African heritage in a modern context.

Produced by Creele Animation Studios and executive produced by Bose Ogulu, SOPO is now gearing up for its festival circuit debut and a limited theatrical release across Nigeria.

As anticipation builds, the filmmakers are calling on short film lovers, cultural advocates, and animation enthusiasts to support the project. Every contribution will help ensure the continued production of high-quality content that amplifies African voices and storytelling on a global stage.
