Crisis In Osun PDP Deepens as Two Senators Resign over Lingering Internal Disputes

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has suffered a significant setback following the resignation of two of its serving senators, Francis Fadahunsi and Olubiyi Fadeyi, citing irreconcilable divisions within the party.

Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East, and Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi, representing Osun Central, announced their resignation in separate letters addressed to their respective ward chairmen, dated July 12, 2025.

Fadahunsi, in a letter to the PDP Chairman of Ward 4, Obokun Local Government Area, lamented the deep-rooted internal crises that have plagued the party since the 2023 general elections.

He described the conflicts as “irreparable and irreconcilable,” worsened by a series of protracted legal battles at the national level.

“I wish to formally notify you that I am resigning my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect due to the irreparable, irreconcilable differences and protracted legal battles that have bedeviled the party at the national level after the 2023 general elections,” Fadahunsi stated.

Similarly, Senator Fadeyi, in his letter to the PDP Chairman of Ward 3, Oke-Ejigbo, attributed his decision to the persistent legal tussles that have led to the emergence of factions within the party.

“Irreconcilable differences and irreparable divisions, including court cases and counter court cases in the last three years, have created factions in the party at the national level.

This decision followed extensive consultations with my political associates, family, and friends,” Fadeyi noted.

Both lawmakers, however, remained silent on their next political moves or which political parties they might align with.

The twin defections come at a time when the PDP is grappling with a growing wave of internal defections and leadership crises across several states.

The party has recently lost some of its prominent members to rival political parties, including the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Observers see the development as a major blow to the PDP in Osun State, particularly as the party prepares for upcoming electoral battles.

The absence of two influential senators could destabilize its support base and embolden opposition forces in the state.

Political analysts warn that unless the PDP urgently addresses its internal fractures and unifies its ranks, more high-profile defections may follow in the coming months.
