The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old man, Yaman Patigi, over alleged collaboration with a kidnap syndicate operating in Patigi Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect was reportedly caught purchasing a suspiciously large quantity of food and beverages—including N20,000 worth of suya, spaghetti, cigarettes, alcoholic drinks, and other provisions—believed to be meant for kidnappers hiding in a forest within the council area.

PLATFORM TIMES gathered that residents of Patigi raised the alarm after noticing the suspect’s bulk purchases and inconsistent responses to questions..

Their tip-off led to his arrest and subsequent handover to security operatives.

A source who spoke on condition of anonymity said the man initially claimed he was delivering the items to Fulani residents in a remote community.

However, locals doubted his account and reported him to authorities.

The Chairman of Patigi LGA, Hon. Ahmed Rufai, confirmed the incident, noting that the suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue.

“The vigilance of our people helped. They noticed something unusual and acted fast. The suspect is now with the police, and we await further updates,” Rufai said.

It was further gathered that victims recently released from the kidnappers’ den revealed they were only fed spaghetti during captivity, adding weight to suspicions about the suspect’s intentions.

Commissioner of Police in Kwara, Victor Olaiya, also confirmed the arrest, commending residents for their timely intervention and urging others to remain alert to security threats in their communities.
