The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has scheduled its elective national convention for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The decision was part of the resolutions taken at the party’s 101st NEC meeting held on Thursday in Abuja, according to a communiqué read by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba.

Ologunagba announced that the NEC had approved the composition of both the National Convention Planning Committee and the Zoning Committee to ensure a credible and transparent process for electing new national officers.

He said the party leadership had also directed the PDP National Chairman and National Secretary to officially notify the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) about the upcoming convention.

In a decisive move against internal disloyalty, the NEC mandated the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to initiate legal proceedings to reclaim seats held by members of the National and State Assemblies who were elected on the PDP platform but have defected to other political parties.

Quoting the Nigerian Constitution, Ologunagba said: “By virtue of the self-executory provisions of Sections 68(1)(g) and 109(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), such defectors have automatically lost their seats, since there is no division or merger in the PDP to justify their defection.”

He also expressed concern over reports of some PDP members attending meetings and events organized by rival political parties, warning that such conduct is both unethical and unlawful.

“The NEC calls on such members to reconsider their actions and reaffirm their loyalty to the PDP, especially as the law prohibits dual party membership.

However, the party remains open to reconciling grievances in the interest of unity and progress,” he added.

The PDP NEC reassured Nigerians that the party is repositioning itself as a strong, united, and credible alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.
