The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially inaugurated its campaign council for Hon. Bolarinwa Oluwole, the party’s candidate in the upcoming by-election for the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency.

The by-election, slated for Saturday, August 16, follows the death of Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, the late Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, who passed away in January after a brief illness.

Speaking at the campaign council’s inauguration on Monday at the Akarigbo Palace in Sagamu, the PDP governorship candidate in the 2023 general elections, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, rallied party members and supporters to deliver overwhelming support for Bolarinwa at the polls.

Adebutu described the forthcoming election as an opportunity for the people of Remo to reject what he called the poor governance of Governor Dapo Abiodun, accusing the governor of betraying the trust of the people.

“This is my own third term, and I am standing with Bola Oluwole,” Adebutu declared. “Let us win this for Remo. Let us show that there is a consequence for failed leadership. The people of Remo have been disappointed. It’s time to correct that.”

In his remarks, the State PDP Chairman,  Abayomi Tella, warned against a repeat of what he described as electoral malpractice during the last governorship election. He urged PDP supporters to remain peaceful but vigilant.

“This time, we will not allow what happened in the last election to repeat itself,” Tella said.

“Do not be afraid. No one can intimidate you. Go out and vote. Stay with your votes and defend your mandate peacefully.”

Bolarinwa, in his address, urged party members and constituents to resist provocation and maintain order during the election.

He also called on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor Abiodun to allow for a free and fair process.

“I am appealing to Governor Abiodun to allow justice and fairness to prevail,” he said. “If he truly fears God, as a Christian, he should not permit the manipulation of votes. Let the will of the people stand.”

The event drew key party stakeholders, leaders, and supporters from across the state, all expressing optimism about reclaiming the constituency seat in the House of Representatives.

The PDP hopes the by-election will mark a turning point in Remo politics, restoring what it described as lost trust and accountability in governance.
