Declares APC Has No Electoral Future In Remoland

The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed claims circulating on social media that it has endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor Dapo Abiodun ahead of the August 16 bye-election in the state.

In a strongly worded statement on Monday, the party described the reports as “concocted falsehood” and part of a desperate propaganda campaign by the APC to mislead voters and distract the PDP from its campaign activities.

Publicity Secretary of the Ogun PDP, Otunba Arc Kayode Adebayo, said the party’s earlier remarks in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had been mischievously twisted to imply an endorsement of the APC’s candidate in the upcoming poll.

“Our endorsement of President Tinubu in 2023 was borne out of a national sentiment for power shift to the South and not a blanket approval for the misrule of the APC in Ogun State,” the statement said.

“The bye-election has nothing to do with the President’s re-election bid or his leadership; it is purely about the future of Remoland and the rejection of bad governance.”

The PDP accused the Abiodun-led APC administration of underperformance, stating that the governor lost his own polling unit and ward during the 2023 elections — a sign, the party argued, of his dwindling popularity even among his immediate constituents.

INEC records, according to the PDP, show that Abiodun lost his polling unit at Ita Osanyin where the APC polled 112 votes against PDP’s 119, and also lost his ward, Iperu III, where APC scored 731 votes to PDP’s 794.

The PDP further accused the ruling party of resorting to deliberate misinformation to mask its fear of defeat in the bye-election, warning that no amount of propaganda or abuse of state power could rescue the APC from rejection at the polls.

“The noise about using the President’s influence to secure victory for the APC is a mere illusion. Governor Abiodun and his cohorts should stop deceiving themselves — the people of Remoland have made up their minds,” Adebayo said.

He also alleged plans by the APC to deploy state machinery and violence to intimidate voters, warning that the PDP would resist any form of electoral manipulation.

“The PDP is fully prepared for the election and remains committed to free, fair, and credible polls. Our candidate, Asiwaju Bolarinwa Oluwole, remains the people’s choice, and no amount of lies, threats, or intimidation will stop the will of the people,” the statement added.

The party concluded by reiterating its call on residents of Remoland to reject the APC at the August 16 polls, describing the election as an opportunity to punish “clueless governance” and reclaim the state’s democratic future.
