Fayemi Denies Starting Opposition Coalition With Amaechi

Former Ekiti State governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has dismissed claims by ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, that both of them jointly initiated the formation of an opposition coalition.

Amaechi had, during a live discussion on X Space on Saturday, alleged that he and Fayemi began talks about creating the coalition before it expanded to include other politicians.

“Fayemi and I began the coalition discussion, and we subsequently agreed to broaden it so that it would involve more than just the two of us talking about starting a new party,” Amaechi reportedly said.

Reacting in a statement on Sunday through the head of his media office, Ahmad Sajoh, Fayemi described the claim as false and misleading, insisting that he remains a dedicated member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“In an era where fabricated or distorted statements are often attributed to public figures for malicious purposes, we are cautious about engaging with potentially manufactured controversies,” the statement read.

“It is possible that Hon. Amaechi did not make the statement or was misquoted. We unequivocally state that these claims lack any basis.

“Dr. Fayemi remains a committed member and leader of the APC in Ekiti State. At various public forums, he has consistently affirmed his dedication to the party, working to address its challenges and advance its progressive ideals for Nigeria. Nothing has changed.”

Fayemi’s rebuttal comes amid heightened political manoeuvres ahead of the 2027 general elections, with speculations swirling over possible alliances among political heavyweights.
