Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, representing Ogun West Senatorial District, marked his 56th birthday on Sunday with the donation and energisation of 102 electricity transformers to 435 communities across Ogun State.

The gesture, part of the senator’s Light Up Ogun State initiative, was unveiled during a surprise birthday reception at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion Ground, Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area.

The transformers — in capacities of 500kva/33, 500kva/11, 300kva/33, and 300kva/11 — will serve residents in 17 Local Government Areas, including Yewa North, Ado-Odo Ota, Yewa South, Abeokuta North, Ifo, Obafemi Owode, Ewekoro, Sagamu, Ijebu Ode, Odogbolu, Ipokia, Ijebu North East, Ikenne, Ijebu East, Remo North, Abeokuta South and Ijebu North.

Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, said the intervention followed years of persistent requests from communities struggling with poor or non-existent electricity supply.

“It is a thing of joy for me to bring light to various homes and businesses,” he said, adding that the project complements the installation of more than 16,500 solar-powered streetlights in markets, streets, communities and palaces across Ogun West and beyond.

The senator assured that the programme would continue until every community on his list is reached.

Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Jagunmolu Jamiu Akande Omoniyi, FCA, described the day as a double celebration — of the senator’s birthday and his developmental strides.

“We are not merely marking another year in the life of our revered senator; we are acknowledging a leader whose work has re-written the history of our land,” Omoniyi said, likening Adeola to “our own Moses” for bringing unprecedented development to Yewa-Awori and other parts of the state.

Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziaq Adekunle Salako, lauded the donation as a “clear demonstration of his commitment to grassroots development,” urging residents to support both the senator and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mandate.

He also commended Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for creating an enabling environment for such initiatives.
