The Chief Executive Officer of UNCLE D Oil and Gas Limited, Oluwadamilare Awodele, has urged affluent Nigerians to channel more of their wealth into local investments as a strategic way to curb unemployment and boost the nation’s economy.

Awodele made the call on Monday during the commissioning of his company’s new filling station outlet in Mowe, Ogun State.

According to him, the government alone cannot solve Nigeria’s unemployment crisis, stressing that the private sector must take a more active role in job creation.

“It is impossible for government to single-handedly provide employment for the teeming Nigerian youths seeking gainful jobs,” he said. “Government’s role is to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, while the private sector drives economic growth.”

Awodele lamented that many privileged Nigerians prefer to invest their wealth abroad rather than in the local economy, warning that such practices undermine national development.

“The growing rate of unemployment among our youth should be a matter of serious concern to all, especially the privileged. Unemployment is fueling crime and insecurity in our country because, as the saying goes, an idle hand is the devil’s workshop,” he said.

He added that creating more jobs would significantly reduce social vices and insecurity, noting that the Mowe outlet was his firm’s modest contribution to employment generation, alongside other ventures operated by UNCLE D Oil and Gas.

While acknowledging the current economic hardship, Awodele commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for its efforts to reposition the economy.
