Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, on Tuesday declared his readiness to mobilise progressive-minded politicians across the country to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in 2027.
Speaking with State House correspondents after a closed-door meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Soludo praised Tinubu’s “bold and decisive” economic and structural reforms, describing them as the right steps to reposition Nigeria’s economy.
“I support him, and I’m impressed by the bold steps he has taken, particularly in the areas of the economy and structural reforms. We need to stay the course,” the former Central Bank Governor said.
Soludo, who revealed that he has been friends with Tinubu for over two decades, stressed that his call for unity among progressive politicians was driven by a desire to strengthen Nigeria’s democracy and drive economic and social development.
“All political parties that profess progressivism should come together in a massive coalition, not just to deepen democracy but to accelerate our economic and social transformation. This is about all those who love Nigeria,” he said.
The governor also briefed the media on security and youth empowerment efforts in Anambra, highlighting the state’s new Homeland Security Law, enacted in January, which targets the root causes of insecurity.
According to him, the law has forced “deadly native doctors” who allegedly lure young people into criminality to flee the state. He added that the state is deploying both kinetic and non-kinetic measures, including intelligence gathering, infrastructure upgrades, and massive youth empowerment programmes.
“In the first year alone, we trained and empowered about 5,000 youths, and another 8,700 will be receiving billions in support this month or next. We are creating thousands of youth millionaires within our first three years,” Soludo disclosed.
He maintained that his administration was intentional about tackling hardship through economic and social empowerment, alongside fixing schools, hospitals, and infrastructure.
President Tinubu, he said, was “in high spirits, hale and hearty” during their meeting.
