Amid rising food insecurity plaguing Nigeria, fuelled by high food prices, a social impact initiative, Inspire Lagos Food Market has resolved to slash prices of food to make healthy and quality food accessible for all.

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) estimated that 33million Nigerians are at high risk of food insecurity, citing economic factors as a leading cause.

Convener & Founder of Inspire Lagos Food Market, Ambassador Abiola Adebajo said the initiative existed to bridge hunger gap, noting that a forthcoming programme in Lagos, ‘Inspire Week’ targeting a 50 percent subsidy on food prices, was driven to fulfil its mandate.

He said the programme themed ‘Celebrating Real Impact, Fostering More’ marks the initiative’s first anniversary, which had so far impacted over 25,000 families across Lagos through its mobile and community-based food markets.

Adebajo was convinced that the four-day programme beginning August 19 will ease burdens on households, adding that the gesture will be replicated across local government areas in the state for wider effects.

“This anniversary is not just a celebration; it’s a call to foster more impact. We want to show that with consistent community support and strategic partnerships, we can fight hunger effectively’, he stated.

He noted that the programme will further feature food sales, outreach activities, and a volunteer boot camp on food security, amongst others, towards enabling Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) on hunger elimination.

He also informed that there will be food sales, outreach activities, and a volunteer boot camp on food security, amongst others, towards enabling Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) on hunger elimination.

Discussions from key stakeholders, including Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Abisola Olusanya during the initiative’s anniversary will address food affordability, while worthy actors will also be appreciated.

“We shall also launch the Inspire 50–50 Mandate, which is a renewed commitment to scaling food access across Lagos”, he disclosed.
