British actor Terence Stamp, famous for playing the antagonist Zod in Superman (1978), has died at the age of 87.
Stamp’s passing was announced by his family in a statement to Reuters and The New York Times on Sunday. The cause of death was not revealed.
The family of the Hollywood veteran also asked for privacy to mourn the departed.
“He leaves behind an extraordinary body of work, both as an actor and as a writer that will continue to touch and inspire people for years to come.
“We ask for privacy at this sad time,” the family said.
Born on July 22, 1938, Terence Henry Stamp was the recipient of various accolades, including a Golden Globe Award, a Cannes Film Festival Award, and a Silver Bear.
Some of his other notable films are The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994), Wall Street (1987), Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace (1999), Elektra (2005), and Last Night in Soho (2021)
