Renowned elder statesman, human rights advocate, and philanthropist, Otunba Ephraim Lana Akintan, on Monday marked his 96th birthday with thanksgiving and special prayers for traditional rulers, business leaders, and his mentees who have dedicated themselves to service and philanthropy.

The modest but symbolic celebration, held at his Oja-Odan residence, witnessed the nonagenarian offering heartfelt prayers for the Oloja of Oja-Odan, Oba (Engr.) Oyebanji Adetunji Olowobese, and the town’s residents, seeking divine wisdom and guidance for the monarch in steering the community.

Otunba Akintan also prayed specially for some of his mentees, including the Chairman of IBD IMPEX Ltd, Chief Ibrahim Dende Egungbohun (IBD Dende); prominent businessman and philanthropist, Alhaji Azeez Sanni (Zolakaz); Mr. Paul Amosun (Paul Pobe); Mr. Femi Akanbi (Prezoab), as well as members of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) and the Oja-Odan Road Users Union.

Speaking during the event, the elder statesman said his greatest joy at 96 was seeing both his biological and adopted children, alongside his mentees, embrace charity as a way of life.

“At 96, my joy is that both my biological and adopted children, whom I regard as my mentees, have chosen to use their blessings to touch the lives of others.

“It is no more news that Chief Ibrahim Dende Egungbohun is a living icon of philanthropy and kindness. Mr. Paul Amosun (Paul Pobe), Alhaji Azeez Sanni, and Mr. Femi Akanbi have all shown what it means to give back to society.

Their lifestyles have become my source of joy, seeing them give succour to the underprivileged. May God continue to strengthen them,” he prayed.

Widely respected for his decades-long fight for human rights and commitment to community development, Otunba Akintan’s low-key celebration was graced by family, friends, clerics, and community leaders who extolled his enduring legacy.

In his goodwill message, the nonagenarian emphasized that charity, compassion, and unity remain essential virtues for building a stronger nation, urging leaders across all sectors to imbibe these values in governance and community service.
