Niniola, a popular Nigerian musician, has stated that witnessing the assassination of her father, Simeon Apata, a retired Nigerian Army brigadier general, was a traumatic incident she would never forget.

Gen. Apata (rtd) was murdered by gunmen in Lagos on January 8, 1995, in front of his family.

In a recent interview with Jay On Air, Niniola discussed the unfortunate occurrence and stated that it is difficult for her to move on because she was her late father’s favourite child.

“I was in the house when my dad was murdered. And I was his favourite child so you can imagine [the trauma]. Till today, I’m not over it. I can never get over it,” she said.

“I was very young when it happened. I don’t remember my exact age then but it wasn’t a good memory.”

Niniola’s sister, Teni, who is also a singer, disclosed in 2023 that watching her dad being assassinated at the tender age of two left her traumatised.
