… Ex-Governor Insists He Remains APC Senator
Former Ogun State Governor and Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has threatened legal action against some online and national media organisations over reports alleging that he had been suspended from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Daniel, in a statement issued by his media office on Sunday, described the publications as “false, malicious and libelous,” insisting that he remains a bona fide member of the ruling party and a serving senator under its platform.
The senator’s office particularly faulted a story first published by OgunInsight and News Across with the headline: “EXCLUSIVE: Billions, Betrayal, and a By-Election – The Inside Story of Gbenga Daniel’s Suspension from Ogun APC.”
According to the statement, the report was later reproduced by Vanguard, PM News and several other outlets on August 24, 2025, under different headlines, including “Why APC Suspended Senator Gbenga Daniel.”
Describing the reports as “offensive and damaging,” Daniel’s media office said they were calculated attempts to malign his reputation, which he had built over decades of professional, business and political service.
“This libelous publication has the capacity to injure the hard-earned reputation of our principal, Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel,” the statement read.
The former governor’s media office demanded an unreserved apology and retraction of the reports in all the national dailies that carried the story, alongside the deletion of the publication from all online and social media platforms.
It gave the media outlets a seven-day ultimatum to comply or face full legal action.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel is and remains a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, duly elected and serving under the platform of the APC,” the statement added.
The OGD Media Office maintained that the reports were a deliberate attempt to misinform the public and destabilise Daniel politically, warning that its legal team was prepared to seek redress if the demand was ignored.
