The Lagos State House of Assembly and the Guangxi People’s Congress, the legislative arm of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China, have agreed to explore legislative collaboration to enhance investments in the state.

This was made known when a delegation led by the Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of Guangxi People’s Congress, Zhang Xiaoqin, visited the Lagos Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, at the Assembly Complex, Alausa-Ikeja, on Monday.

In his welcoming address, Obasa told the delegation that, apart from tourism, they could also take advantage of the huge population to invest in other sectors of the economy.

He said the state has a buoyant economy with over 20 million citizens, promising that Lagos was ready for more foreign investments.

He explained that the state is the best investment destination in Africa, adding that it was also ready for a collaboration that would enhance the economy of the state in particular and Nigeria as a whole.

Obasa, who acknowledged the existing collaboration between Lagos and the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) in the construction and operation of the Red and Blue Line rail projects, said the Lagos Assembly was ready to work with them.

He stated that the Assembly was ready to collaborate in the area of legislation and exchange of ideas for good governance.

Earlier, Xiaoqin said the visit was aimed at facilitating legislative collaboration and trade.

“We are looking forward to enhancing collaboration in the area of trade, economy, and tourism. We hope you will provide more care for the Chinese citizens in Lagos,” he said.

He noted that the province of Guangxi and Lagos share the ocean as a common feature that could be exploited to boost tourism.
