2027: Ogun West Assembly Backs Tinubu, Vows 250,000 Votes

The Ogun West Assembly for Tinubu (OWAT) has declared its total support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, promising to mobilise at least 250,000 votes for him in the zone.

OWAT, an umbrella body of political leaders and stakeholders from the Ogun West Senatorial District, said Tinubu had laid a sustainable foundation for national development through “bold reforms and strategic leadership” in the last 27 months.

The group, in an advertorial published in national dailies at the weekend, argued that the President had rescued the country from the brink of collapse.

According to OWAT, Tinubu inherited “a country at a tipping point of irreversible damage” but has since embarked on far-reaching reforms that are stabilising the economy.

“The President took strong decisions despite public outcry threatening to derail necessary reorganisations needed to reposition Nigeria’s economy, infrastructure and governance system,” the statement read in part.

The group highlighted the removal of fuel subsidy, unification of exchange rates, reduction in debt servicing, and record-breaking growth in the capital market as some of Tinubu’s key achievements.

It also cited the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway, modernisation of Apapa and Lekki ports, student loan scheme, social cash transfers, and improvements in primary healthcare centres as evidence of the administration’s progress.

On the economy, OWAT claimed Nigeria’s naira had become “one of the world’s best-performing currencies,” with GDP growth, a 66 per cent rise in capital inflows, and a trade surplus of $14.3 billion recorded under Tinubu.

The group commended the President for ending what it described as Ogun West’s “decades-long federal neglect” by appointing Dr. Iziaq Salako into the Federal Executive Council and facilitating several other appointments for indigenes of the zone.

It also applauded the President’s support for Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola and House of Representatives members from the district, who it said had attracted “unprecedented federal interventions.”

Projects cited included the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, the Ilara-Ilase road, and the establishment of a Federal University of Technology in Ilaro.

OWAT maintained that Tinubu deserved a second term on merit, describing his leadership as courageous and visionary.

“He needs a second term to consolidate the gains in economic stability, infrastructure, industrialisation and social welfare,” the group declared.

In 2023, Ogun West delivered 113,167 votes for Tinubu, representing 33 per cent of the APC’s tally in Ogun State.

The group said its new target of 250,000 votes in 2027 would be a reward for the “unprecedented attention” Tinubu has given to the district.

The statement was signed by OWAT chairman, Balogun Jubril Elegbede; secretary, Hon. Segun Ojolowo-Ojuko; and other leaders including Olootu Bolaji Adeniji, Agba’kin Wale Junaid, Hon. Wole Elegbede, Hon. Tayo Oyekanmi, Chief Babatunde Okewole and Princess Feyikemi Egbeyemi.
