T2 has announced a multi-million dollar strategic alliance with Huawei to modernize its core network, a move that marks the company’s bold re-entry into the country’s highly competitive telecommunications sector.
The partnership is being positioned as the backbone of T2’s resurgence strategy, signaling its determination to reclaim leadership in an industry where agility, innovation, and service quality define survival. By leveraging Huawei’s globally acclaimed ICT expertise, T2 plans to overhaul its network backbone to deliver stronger capacity, resilience, and security , laying the groundwork for next-generation digital services across Nigeria.
Speaking at the signing ceremony in Lagos, T2’s Chief Executive Officer, Obafemi Banigbe, described the deal as a catalyst, not just a contract. He added: “Huawei has been a trusted partner throughout our journey, and this next chapter reaffirms our shared commitment to innovation, reliability, and excellence. With Huawei by our side, we are not just upgrading our network, we are future-proofing it.”
The agreement anchors T2’s four-phase roadmap — Stabilisation, Modernisation, Transformation, and Growth; a strategy designed to reposition the company as a technology-driven market leader while deepening consumer trust.
Huawei, through its Nigeria Carrier Business CEO Jiang Junyong, pledged to deliver world-class solutions to support T2’s ambitions: “This partnership reflects our shared commitment to innovation and excellence. We are helping T2 build a resilient, high-performance core network that will power next-generation services and long-term growth.”
Beyond infrastructure, the initiative signals T2’s intent to redefine customer experience in Nigeria. The modernization is expected to unlock new digital services, expand coverage nationwide, and enhance service reliability for millions of users.
Industry watchers see the collaboration as the first major step in T2’s comeback playbook, positioning the company for aggressive growth in an increasingly data-driven economy. Completion of the network overhaul is expected in the coming months, solidifying T2’s return as a formidable force in Nigeria’s telecom landscape.
