Bucci Franklin is fast becoming a household name in Nollywood. With a career defined by resilience, hard work, and raw passion for storytelling, the actor is now basking in the spotlight after his remarkable performance as Oboz in Kemi Adetiba’s Netflix hit series, To Kill A Monkey.
The project, which has been the rave of the moment in Nollywood, has further cemented Franklin’s place as one of the industry’s most promising talents.
Speaking with Saturday Sun, the actor reflecting on the overwhelming reception of To Kill A Monkey, described the experience as both humbling and emotional.
“I feel humbled to be a part of a production that is making waves, not just in Nigeria, but around the globe. We’re just a few weeks and a couple of days, and it’s been a rollercoaster of emotions. Sharing same set with Chidi Mokeme and Stella Damasus is a dream fulfilled. They are people I grew up watching on television. It’s an honour to share space with them. Stella is a phenomenal actor and a beautiful soul. I love and respect her. And Chidi—he’s back like he never left. It’s truly inspiring. I just want to thank God, honestly,” he said. For Franklin, every role is more than just a job. It is a spiritual and creative responsibility. Before signing on to a project, he takes time to pray and reflect on its impact.
“I pray about it. I look at the storyline and synopsis. There are so many good stories, but I choose intentionally. I worked with Bolanle Austen-Peters after To Kill A Monkey, and I must say, these women are intentional with the projects they put out.”
Raised in Port Harcourt by his mother, fast rising actor credits her as the biggest influence in his life.
“My mother raised me. She’s everything to me. She is the reason I am who I am today,” he revealed warmly. “A round of applause for my mother for shaping me into the man I am today.”
