No fewer than a dozen persons were injured on Saturday when hoodlums attacked members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Social Democratic Party (SDP) during a coalition meeting reportedly convened under the leadership of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

The incident, which occurred at the NUT Endwell Conference Hall in Mogadishu Layout, Kaduna, threw the gathering into chaos as thugs armed with weapons invaded the venue.

Viral videos and photos circulating online showed wounded participants and vehicles with shattered windscreens.

Eyewitnesses said the meeting was part of ongoing discussions between the two opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Efforts by PLATFORM TIMES to reach Mr El-Rufai for comments were unsuccessful as his mobile line was switched off.

Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Police Command distanced itself from the event, insisting that it was not notified before the meeting was held.

In a statement, the command’s spokesman, DSP Mansir Hassan, said the organisers went ahead despite “repeated warnings,” adding that preliminary investigations revealed that political thugs linked to the former governor fired gunshots during the fracas.

“The command wishes to state categorically that the investigation is ongoing, and anyone found culpable, irrespective of his personality or how highly placed, will face the full wrath of the law,” Hassan warned.

He further stressed that the police would not condone acts capable of undermining public peace and security in the state.
