Former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, has accused the administration of Governor Uba Sani of sponsoring thugs who disrupted a meeting of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition in Kaduna on Saturday.

El-Rufai, who spoke during a live interview on Sunday Politics, a Channels Television programme, alleged that security operatives provided cover for the attackers, describing the incident as “state-backed thuggery.”

“It is very stupid for anyone to think I would invite thugs to invade an event of my own party,” the former governor said.

“The police were there. They saw what happened. They even provided protection for the thugs. These hoodlums were government-sponsored. We know them, we know the police officers that were present. The Kaduna State government was behind the attack,” he alleged.

The attack occurred during the inauguration of the ADC’s transition committee, where hoodlums armed with cutlasses, clubs and stones reportedly invaded the venue, injuring participants and vandalising vehicles.

El-Rufai said he would submit evidence of the government’s alleged involvement to the Police Service Commission and the office of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP).

“I will also submit a formal petition to the IGP. If they care to take action, the evidence is available,” he added.

The incident has sparked outrage among ADC supporters in the state, who accused the ruling party of attempting to silence opposition voices ahead of the 2027 general elections.

As of press time, the Kaduna State government and the police authorities were yet to issue an official response to the allegations.
