Fashion aficionados will not forget the month August, which ends today in a hurry. The 15th edition of Africa Fashion Week London, AFWL, witnessed two days of robust fashion activity at Space House, in Central London, UK.
The event held from August 9–10 was an assemblage of designers and fashion buyers, journalists, international media and celebrities from Africa and the Diaspora.
The event was a great opportunity to exhibit assorted African fashion products and accessories to international the market place.
With an eye on the future, and to highlight the catch-them-young principle, the fashion show began with presentations by a collection by students from the Winchester School of Art.
Makenzy’s Crochet Collection, featured stylish dresses and tops, Samson Soboye’s “Black Majesty Kingdom”, a glamorous fusion of high fashion and African flair. David Wej, dressed the men in sleek, eye-catching suits., Ebewele Brown’s “Sainte and Oldwyn”, brought a fresh take on luxury streetwear while Mary Martin London, toned down her typically bold style but still impressed with her distinctive pieces.
The audience was entertained by live performance of Lion King crew. The audience was captivated with the collection presented by Meta AI in collaboration with I.N Official, including a black jacket with fringe details and pieces crafted from traditional aso-oke fabric.
Day Two opened with a Masterclass, where designers, creatives, and stakeholders spoke extensively about fashion and the way forward.
Also on Day Two, the runway show highlighted Sissymeme Couture, a stunning collection in collaboration with Kwara State that brought Adire to life in diverse and captivating ways, featuring Aso Ofi and Adire Teem, Adire Osun, and Adire Oge. House of Estree, Tote Londoner, and others presented unique styles in African fashion.
The highlight of the show was the Ojude Oba-inspired Catwalk, a majestic tribute to the rich traditions of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
Special recognition awards were presented to distinguished individuals who have contributed to the global growth of African fashion.
Altogether, the 2025 edition of Africa Fashion Week London, conceptualized by Queen Ronke Ademiluyi Ogunwusi, was a blast. The event was well-packaged, to say the least.
