A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Musa Ilyasu Kwankwaso, has dismissed alleged plots by former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027, warning that the same tactics used against ex-President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 would not succeed.
Speaking in Kano on Tuesday, Kwankwaso accused El-Rufai of blackmail and of attempting to pitch northern Nigerians against the Tinubu administration.
He stressed that the current government had made “visible progress” in security and economic recovery, unlike what El-Rufai was projecting.
“You cannot oust President Bola Tinubu from the presidency in 2027 by engaging in the same method you did to former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015, using poverty, insecurity and economic devastation. Your blackmail is clear to all,” Kwankwaso said.
He credited National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, for improvements in the fight against insecurity, noting that operations in Birnin Gwari, Sokoto, and Borno had yielded significant gains with several bandit leaders recently captured.
Kwankwaso also challenged El-Rufai to provide evidence to back his allegations that the Federal Government was sponsoring banditry and terrorism.
“In the absence of such evidence, El-Rufai should desist from further comments and allow the government to continue the good things it is doing for Nigerians,” he added.
The APC stalwart further dismissed the emerging coalition of opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and El-Rufai, describing them as “failures” who had no better alternative to offer Nigerians.
“Who amongst them has performed as good as Tinubu when he had the chance?” he queried.
Kwankwaso urged Nigerians to rally behind President Tinubu and resist what he described as “desperate attempts” by the opposition to destabilise the administration ahead of the 2027 elections.
