My Second-Term Ambition Not Worth Blood Of Ekiti People — Gov Oyebanji

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, on Tuesday declared that his second-term ambition would never be pursued at the expense of human lives, warning political actors against actions that could plunge the state into violence.

Oyebanji, in a statewide broadcast, expressed concern over what he described as “orchestrated violent campaigns” in parts of the state, alleging that some individuals had sponsored coordinated media and physical attacks against his administration.

The governor maintained that the security of lives and property remained his top priority, stressing that no political aspiration should be nurtured with bloodshed.

“A couple of days ago, we received intelligence that some individuals had paid media allies from outside Ekiti to launch coordinated attacks against this government through false accusations.

We initially thought it was limited to propaganda, but recent violent campaigns have shown otherwise,” he said.

Oyebanji, who is expected to seek re-election in 2026, urged politicians across party lines to place the collective peace of the state above personal ambition.

He added: “No aspiration is worth the precious blood of any Ekiti person. Nobody has the right to bully, intimidate, or coerce another. I appeal to leaders across the divide to rein in their supporters. Let us engage with ideas, not with guns and cutlasses.”

The governor assured that security agencies had been placed on alert to forestall a breakdown of law and order.

His remarks came amid accusations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) disrupted its meeting in Ikere Ekiti, vandalising vehicles and leaving several members injured.

ADC chairman in the state, Ilesanmi Omolaye, alleged that thugs loyal to the APC attacked party members during a political gathering.

But APC spokesman, Segun Dipe, dismissed the claims, describing them as baseless.

“Nobody is disturbing them from parading themselves as starters. They are only trying to create artificial problems for themselves and crying wolf where there is none,” Dipe said.
