Showmax is adding fresh variety this September, from African animation to Hollywood dramas. Leading the line-up is ‘Iyanu: The Age of Wonders,’ an animated adaptation of Roye Okupe’s graphic novel.
Set 500 years before the rise of Iyanu, ‘The Age of Wonders’ takes viewers to Yorubaland at the height of its magical civilisation. When Meje – the embodiment of the seven deadly sins – emerges, young warriors Dara and Ishe must stop the coming Age of Darkness. Their only hope lies with the Divine Ones, legendary beings who once upheld the balance between light and shadow.
The film features an all-Nigerian voice cast including Shaffy Bello, Adesua Etomi-Wellington, and award-winner Serah Johnson as Iyanu. The first season of the series was a breakout success, ranking number one on Cartoon Network, entering the top 10 kids’ and family series on Max, and becoming the most-watched kids’ title on Showmax. The animated film arrives on September 26.
Also streaming this month is ‘The Brutalist,’ the award-winning historical drama starring Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones, and Guy Pearce. The story follows László Toth, a Hungarian Jewish architect who survives the Holocaust and emigrates to the United States to start afresh. While waiting for his wife and niece still trapped in Eastern Europe, he discovers that the promise of the American Dream does not easily translate to his new Pennsylvania surroundings.
On September 8, Showmax will premiere ‘Conclave,’ winner of the 2025 Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. The thriller follows Cardinal Lawrence as he oversees one of the world’s most secretive events — the election of a new pope — only to find himself at the centre of conspiracies that could shake the foundations of the Catholic Church.
Other titles available this month include ‘September 5,’ ‘Den of Thieves: Pantera,’ and ‘Landman,’ among others.
