The Ogun State Government has come under criticism for maintaining silence nearly three weeks after data analytics platform, StatiSense, ranked the state as having the worst road quality in Nigeria.
The ranking, released on August 29, has continued to spark outrage among residents and stakeholders, with civil society leaders accusing Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration of neglecting critical infrastructure.
Convener of the United Premier Movement (UPM), Hon. Olalekan A. Shoyinka, popularly known as Ayinla Egba, in a statement, faulted the government’s refusal to either refute or respond to the report, describing it as “deafening and troubling.”
According to him, the condition of roads across the state, including in Abeokuta, has left many highways impassable, worsened traffic congestion, damaged vehicles, and endangered lives.
He noted that farmers and small business owners are among the worst hit as transportation of goods and services has become increasingly difficult.
Shoyinka queried the government’s silence, demanding answers on whether StatiSense’s assessment was accurate.
“If the ranking is false, why has the government not debunked it? If it is true, what steps are being taken to reverse this embarrassing trend?” he asked.
The UPM leader further called for explanations on budgetary allocations for road projects, questioning whether funds earmarked for rehabilitation were being judiciously used or diverted.
He accused the APC-led government of prioritising “2027 succession politics” over governance, warning that silence could be interpreted as “tacit admission and deliberate neglect.”
Shoyinka urged Governor Abiodun to address the issue publicly, publish a time-bound plan for road rehabilitation across the state’s three senatorial districts, and demonstrate commitment to transparency and accountability.
“This is not a call for a mere press release but a demand for responsible leadership. The people of Ogun State are watching, and silence is no longer an option,” he stated.
