No fewer than 68 inmates of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, have successfully passed the 2025 National Examination Council (NECO) examinations.

The spokesperson of the command, Musbahu Lawan, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, noting that the feat was achieved under the Centre for Inmates’ Continuity Education, fully sponsored by the Kano State Government.

Lawan explained that the initiative was in line with the Correctional Service Act, 2019, which prioritises rehabilitation and reformation of inmates through academic and vocational training.

“This success also reflects the directive of the Controller General of Corrections, CGC Sylvester Indidi-Nwakuche, urging all custodial centres nationwide to enrol inmates in academic and vocational programmes.

“The aim is to equip them with knowledge and skills that will aid their reintegration into society as responsible and productive citizens,” Lawan said.

He added that the development also aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to transform the lives of Nigerians, including those in correctional facilities.

The inmates, he said, expressed joy at their success, describing it as a turning point in their lives.

The Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command, Ado Inuwa, commended the performance, stressing that the achievement underscored the importance of rehabilitation through education.

Also speaking, the Chairperson of the Prerogative of Mercy, Azumi Namadi-Bebeje, congratulated the inmates and praised Governor Abba Yusuf for his commitment to the welfare of inmates.

She said, “The governor has demonstrated uncommon compassion by supporting educational opportunities for inmates. This initiative will empower them to become positive ambassadors for themselves and the society.”
