World record holder chef, Hilda Baci has disclosed that the collapse of the gigantic pot used during her recent jollof record feat was “a blessing in disguise”.
Hilda Baci disclosed this while reflecting on the journey to clinching the Guinness World Record for the largest serving of Nigerian style jollof rice.
In a video circulated by HipTV on X, the chef disclosed that the pot caving made food distribution easier.
“I would say it was a good thing that the pot caved because it made food distribution a lot easier… it was a blessing in disguise,” she said.
However, Hilda Baci explained that it was not a pleasant experience when the custom-made pot gave way.
“When we had the mishap with the pot, my first few seconds, my heart was in my hands. I was very scared, very worried,” she said.
At that point, she noted, serving the food became more important to her than chasing any record.
Hilda Baci stated, “For me, the record was not the most important thing. It was important that people got to taste and enjoy the food we had spent hours making.”
On September 12 in Lagos, Hilda Baci in partnership with Gino prepared nearly 8,780 kilograms of jollof rice in a pot measuring six meters wide and tall with a capacity of about 23,000 litres.
At a press conference on Saturday, September 21, she disclosed that the giant pot would not be auctioned or sold, revealing she had received several offers from people asking to buy it.
According to her, the pot had become more than cookware but a national and global symbol.
